Energy Policymaking for Sustainable Development in the Caribbean

The project was aimed at assisting decision-makers in the Caribbean countries to formulate and evaluate their energy policies in achieving sustainable development targets. Foreseen activities include the finalisation of a specialised guide, the development of case studies in Jamaica and Dominican Republic, and the presentation of training workshops.

UCCEE contributed technical assistance through staff participation and co-financing of activities through funding provided by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

This project stems from the broader regional project "Energy and Sustainable Development" developed by the Latin American Energy Organisation (OLADE), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).

The focus of the regional project on the Caribbean was part of the Caribbean Energy Action Programme (CEAP), promoted by OLADE and supported by the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Caribbean Energy Information System (CEIS).
