Mitigation analysis in South Africa

UCCEE provided technical assistance to the project team responsible for the Mitigation Options Project. This was a component of the South African Country Study Programme (SACSP) initiated to provide information for the National Communication. The project was funded by the U.S. Country Studies Programme and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ).

The overall objective of the project is to analyse the feasibility and implementation costs of mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.

The technical assistance will include support in the following activities:
bulletpreparation of a methodological approach for the formulation of mitigation options in energy production and consumption, land use and agriculture
bulletapplication of UCCEE's Greenhouse Gas Costing Model (GACMO)
bulletevaluation and formulation of mitigation strategies
bulletintroduction of mitigation issues in macroeconomic modelling
