Strategy to accelerate the penetration of RETs in South Africa

The project contributed to the formulation and implementation of government renewable energy policy in South Africa, by developing a strategy to accelerate the market penetration of suitable technologies, in particular solar, biomass, wind and mini-hydro.

The strategy included:
bulletRecommendations for the formulation of sound government policy
bulletAn action programme for an European - South African co-operation to increase investments in renewable energy technologies in the country

The findings and the action programme were discussed with South African stakeholders during the Workshop "Moving from Policy to Implementation", held in Pretoria in February 2001.
